Itamaraty – the Brazilian Ministry of External Relations – informed in a comunique (Sunday evening) that the two Brazilian journalists who have been detained Saturday (11) in Caracas were released by the Venezuelan authorities and are already in their way back to Brazil. According to Itamaraty, “the journalists Leandro Stoliar and Gilson Souza, from TV Record, have just taken off from Caracas, on a commercial flight to Lima, where they will embark for São Paulo.”. “ Since being informed yesterday of the reporters’ detention, the Brazilian government, (…) acted with the Venezuelan authorities to have them promptly released. The comunique ends affirming the Brazilian government position in defense of freedom of the press (…) indispensable to the full exercise of democracy. Both journalists were investigating how Odebrecht’s corruption scheme operated in Venezuela.
