Former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will be questioned on Tuesday (March 14) morning, January 14, at a Federal Court in Brasília. This will be the first time that he will be appear in court as a defendant in a criminal prosecution related to anti-corruption Operation Lava Jato (Car Wash). The court denied a request from the former president to be heard in the city where he lives, near São Paulo, through a videoconference.
Accused of obstructing the course of justice other individuals will also will be questioned as defendants in the criminal prosecution: the businessman and friend of Lula, Mr. José Carlos Bunlai; the former Workers’ Party senator Delcidio Amaral; the banker André Santos Esteves, among others.
Former senator Delcídio, in the past one of the Workers’ Party star, accused former president Lula of trying to buy the silence of Nestor Cervero, a key-person in the huge scheme of corruption in Petrobras, the state-owned oil company.
