Historical links between Pernambuco and Algeria have motivated the visit of Algerian Ambassador Toufik Dahmani to Recife on Tuesday (March 28). The ambassador was invited by the Instituto Miguel Arraes (IMA), presided over by the lawyer and writer Antônio Campos.
Ambassador Dahmani’s agenda included a visit to governor Paulo Câmara, a participation in the lauching of a book, a visit to the home of former governor Miguel Arraes, who lived in Algeria during his exile for 14 years, and a visit to newspaper Folha de Pernambuco.
Ambassador Dahmani said:”I’m here to learn. I’m going to see the Arraes and Campos families, which have many connections with Algeria, because Miguel lived there for 14 years,” he explained.”I am also here to explore business opportunities and cooperation, particularly between the State of Pernambuco and Algeria. Between Algeria and Brazil there are excellent political relations, solidarity and friendship, and now we need to raise economic relations at the same level of relations Policies,” he said.
