Judge drops PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) of OI case: “gross error”

Judge Fernando Cesar Ferreira Viana overseer of the in-court restructuring of Brazilian telecommunication firm Oi SA decided to drop PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC)  from the case, under the allegation that the company made innaceptable accounting errors in what is the biggest bankruptcy lawsuit in Brazil’s history. The judge wrote that he had lost trust in PwC after the firm asked for an extension and committed a “gross error” in compiling a list of Oi’s creditors. Judge Ferreira Viana decided to replace PwC by BDO Consultoria in conjunction with law firm Arnoldo Wald.”In a case of this magnitude, the biggest in Latin America, which is already quite complex, I do not see any value in a performance not aimed at excellence. There is neither time nor space to waste with the performance of (PwC),” Viana wrote.
