Bendine, ex-Banco do Brasil, ex-Petrobras, allegedly involved in kickbacks

Appointed CEO of Petrobras by former President Dilma Rousseff (PT) in February 2015, allegedly to rescue the state-owned company from the bad situation it was, after the corruption scandal revealed by Lava-Jato (Carwash) anti-corruption operation, Almir Bendine (who until then was Banco do Brasil’s chairman) demanded kikbacks from Odebrecht, “to advance its interests in Petrobras”,

Such statement is part of testimony made in court by the former contractor’s CEO , Norberto Odebrecht and former the  Odebrecht Ambiental chairman Fernando Reis. Odebrecht paid R $ 3 million ($ 960,000) to Bendine, according to the mentioned sources. Requests for  kickback began to be articulated when Bendine still presided Banco do Brasil, and they were initally related to facilitate renegotiation of  debts of Odebrecht Agroindustrial, according to Valor newspaper.
