The government authorized the repression of protesters of communities that fight against the devastation of the Amazon and the right to live in their lands, by the use of the National Force of Public Security, the same force that carries a war against drug traffic in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.

In response to community protests affecting workers on a huge transmission line in Pará, the federal government approved the use of the National Public Security Force in the State to protect the workers and in order to avoid delays that could impact the generation of Belo Monte hydroelectric power.
