Vale on Thursday paralyzed its activities at the Onza Puma mine in Pará, after a court decision that determined compensatory measures in favor of indigenous communities allegedly affected by the venture.

The decision was taken by the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region and responds at the request of the Federal Public Ministry to investigate the damage caused by the activity on the Indians Xikrin and Kayapó.

The court estimates that the miner owes 50 million reais in compensation to the Indians.
