Court freezes former president Rousseff’s assets

Brazil’s federaL audit court  (known as TCU) ordered on Wednesday  (Oct.11) a freeze of former President Dilma Rousseff’s assets as well as those of former Petrobras CEO José Sérgio Gabrielli, over a $580 million loss in the 2006 fraudulent purchase of a Texas refinery.

Petrobras bought a 96 years old refinery in Pasadena, Texas, for a price nine times over the market value, with the bulk of the over-pay allegedly going to the payment of bribes and to Brazil’s then ruling party loyalists.

The acquisition of Pasadena’s refinery was made in 2005 and was approved by former presidente Dilma Rousseff, then minister of  energy and head of  Petrobras’ board of directors.
