Our Lady of Aparecida enthroned in Lebanon


Our Lady of Aparecida, the patroness of Brazil, has since  the beginning of October a replica of her image in the most visited Marian shrine in the Middle East, Our Lady of Lebanon, in Harissa, a town 27 km north of Beirut.

The image of the patroness was enthroned during a ceremony full of  fervor and the fraternal spirit  that links Brazil and Lebanon. According to Naji Farah’s report in the newspaper L’Orient le Jour, Beirut, the enthronement ceremony was promoted by the Lebanese community in Brazil – the most important in the world.

A mass was held on the occasion, attended by more than two thousand people, including the Brazilian ambassador, Jorge Kadri and 150 Brazilian soldiers, members of the UN Peace Force in Lebanon; Cardinal Raymundo Damasceno Assis ( former Cardinal Auxiliary of Brasilia); Monsignor Jonas Abi, founder of the “Cancao Nova” community and president of the John Paul II Foundation, as well as Edgar Madi, Maronite Bishop of Brazil and Bishop Hanna Alwan, Patriarch of Antioch.
