A Chamber of Deputies committee rejected (39-26) on Wednesday (Oct. 18) charges against president Michel Temer, who was accused of obstruction of justice and allegedly participation in a criminal organization.

A final voting on the Chamber’s floor will take place next week to decide whether the President should be tried dor not.

Expectations however are that accusations will be shelved, sparing the President from trial by Brazil’s Supreme Court.

Under Brazilian law, a sitting president can only be criminally tried with the permission of two-thirds of the Congress’ lower house.
