The National Agency of Terrestrial Transport (ANTAQ) characterized Thursday (Oct.19), the waterway navigation by the rivers in the region of the Port of Santos as ‘Interior Navigation of Longitudinal Route1. This definition will facilitate the use of the waterway as integrated to the port’s transportation system, allowing  cargo to be moved  by barges between terminals.

The first stretch was authorized, 20 kilometers, connecting the Usiminas terminal and terminals at the entrance to the Port Access Channel. According to the agency’s director-general, Adalberto Tokarski, the agency’s definition of the type of navigation classification in the region will encourage the use of more than 180 kilometers of waterways in the region.
