Auction: Shell, BP and Exxon Mobil paid US$ 1,89 billion for six pre-salt oil blocks

Two  deepwater pre-salt auctions on Friday (Oct.27)  (that opened the pre-salt play to foreign operators) six blocks were sold  – out of eight offered – , with the collection of a total of R $ 6.15 billion (around US$ 1,89 billion). The value was below the forecast of R $ 7.7 billion (around US$ 2.37 billion).

Royal Dutch Shell won half the blocks awarded in Brazil’s auctions,  while rival British Petroleum took two blocks and Exxon Mobil one .

Of the three blocks won by Dutch Shell, one was in consortium with Total (France), another with Brazilian Petrobras and   Repsol-Sinopec, and the third  with Qatar Petroleum International (QPI) and China’s CNOOC.
