E-visas: less stress (and no lines) for tourists going to Brazil

In November, Brazil will begin issuing e-visas, expediting the process for travelers wishing to visit Brazil. The new system will start on Nov.21 for Australian tourists. In January 2018 it will expand to citizens from Canada (Jan.8), United States (Jan. 15) and Japan (Jan.2), according to official information of Brazil’s Ministry of Tourism. Tourist and business visas will be issued within 72 hours after the request.

“The facilitation of visas aims to reduce bureaucracy and, above all, to boost the entry of foreign tourists into Brazil,” Tourism Minister Marx Beltrao said in a statement on his ministry’s site.

According to the World Tourism Organization, this change—moving toward e-visas—could increase international tourism to the country by as much as 25 percent.

‘And while this isn’t a full visa waiver—and as far as we can tell, the price ($160) will stay the same—when getting a visa comes without traffic and wait times and lines and pre-trip stress, we’ll take it’, commented the American magazine The Traveler.
