Chairman of Rio’s State Assembly accused of corruption

Federal prosecutors of Rio de Janeiro accused state MPs Jorge Picciani and Paulo Melo, both of the PMDB (President Temer’a party), of having received more than $ 112 million (US$ 32.1 million)the current chairman of Rio’s State Assembly and Melo his predecessor, according to the newspaper O Estado de Sao Paulo.

“It is clear that Executive, Legislative and the Court of Accounts [of the State of Rio], which should be autonomous, independent, with a duty of mutual supervision, are actually structured in a criminal organization in order to guarantee continuous diversion of public resources and money laundering, “said Federal Police delegate Alexandre Ramagem Rodrigues.
