Brazil’s Federal Senate has already approved a bill (PLC 79/2016) which establishes new regulations for the telecommunications sector in Brazil.
The bill is expected to be transformed into a Law by the end of the year, with the due sanction of the Executive Branch.
The current legislation (General Telecommunications Law, 1997) is out of date due to the profound technological changes that have occurred in the last twenty years.
The new legislation seeks to meet two demands of Brazilian society: to universalize the Internet and quality broadband, at the lowest possible price. To achieve this goal investments need to increase substantially.
