PMDB, one of Brazil’s political parties with the highest number of politicians accused, indicted or arrested for corruption and criminal conspiracies,  decided through its  ‘ethics committee’ to expel Senator Kátia Abreu (state of Tocantins) from its ranks.

The violation of ethics, according to the PMDB, happened when Katia Abreu decided to remain as Minister of Agriculture until the end of the term of the ex- president Dilma Rousseff, contradicting the position of the party.

The party’s national chairman, Senator Romero Juca (RR) said that “the measure demonstrates a new phase of party positioning (on ethics) ” Juca did not explain however whether this new position will lead to the expelling of the various party politicians  accused, indicted or imprisoned for corruption.
