Life expectancy in Brazil rose to 75 years, 9 months and 7 days (75.8 years) in 2016, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). This is three months and 11 days longer than in 2015 (74.9 years). According to a report released Friday (Dec. 1st), female life expectancy stood at 79.4 years (79.1 years in 2015) compared to 72.2 years for men (71.6 years in 2016). Santa Catarina state reported the longest life expectancy: 79.1 years. The shortest life expectancy at birth was reported for Maranhao: 70.6 years.
