Former governor of Rio de Janeiro Sergio Cabral on Tuesday (Dec.5), in testimony to Judge Marcelo Bretas of the Federal Justice in Rio de Janeiro, said that he had not received any kickbacks for the renovations of the Maracana stadium.

According to Cabral, who is incarcerated and responds to several inquiries for corruption and money laundering, the current governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Luiz Fernando Pezao (PMDB), was responsible for nominating the members of the bidding committee for the renewal of stadium of Maracanã for the 2014 World Cup.

Cabral also said that a ring of diamonds received by his wife (also arrested) from a construction entrepreneur, worth 200,000 euros, was just a gift.
