French group Lactalis will acquire Brazilian dairy producer Itambe Alimentos in the first half of 2018, announced Lactalis and CCPR, a cooperative of dairy producers based in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais on Tuesday (Dec.5). To be completed, the transaction must still receive the authorization of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense – CADE.
Lactalis already owns several dairy brands in Brazil, including Batavo, Elegê and Parmalat.
Itambe was partly owned by Vigor Alimentos, resold in October by J & F Investimentos to Mexican Grupo Lala SAB de CV.
CCPR and Vigor owned Itambe on a par, but the cooperative exercised an option in September to buy out Vigor’s stake. Lala has concluded the purchase of Vigor without the brand Itambe.
