Unfavorable weather in Brazil’s southern states of Parana and Rio Grande do Sul – which produce about 85 percent of Brazil’s wheat-lowered its yield to below average and crop area was one of the lowest harvested in ten years.

US Department of Agriculture latest projection is that Brazil’s wheat production for agricultural year 2017/18 will reach 4.25 million metric tons, down 37 percent from last year’s record.

The harvested wheat area  for 2017/18 is  estimated at 1.9 million hectares, down 10 percent from last year. Yield is estimated at 2.24 metric tons per hectare, down 30 percent from last year’s record, which was due to very favorable weather.
