The Workers’ Party (PT) considers former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva above the reach of law and decided to promote a widespread revolt in Brazil if a regional appeals court does not overturn his pending nine-year jail sentence for corruption and Money-laundering. The decision is  scheduled to be taken in January 24.

Lula’s party says he can not be convicted as regular criminal, because of his popularity and the fact that he decided to run for Brazil’s presidency next October. In his most recente public appearances, the former presidente avoided mentioning the huge corruption schemes installed during his administration, limiting himself to exhort the nation’s poor and working classes to support him.
