Blairo Maggi, Brazilian Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply

Minister of Agriculture  Blairo Maggi , said on Tuesday (Jan. 16)  that Brazil may remove import tariff on the ethanol imported from the United States, which currently stands at 20 per cent for volumes  that exceeds  600 million liters per year.

Maggi said that as gasoline prices have increased recently in Brasil, and as ethanol prices are linked to gasoline, the intended protection  obtained through tariff  stopped to make make much sense. “If we think that this can be withdrawn, I will not have difficulty taking it to the Chamber of Foreign Trade (Camex),” he added.
