Temer in Davos, trying to mend a broken heart

In a keynote address in the World Economic Forum in Davos, Brazil’s  president Michel Temer, after mentioning his administration’s fiscal consolidation efforts and economic reforms said that the country “is back to the growth track”. Analysts say that such message seeks to compensate for the recent cut to the country’s credit rating and a struggle for local popularity.

Mr Temer speech in Switerzland on Wednesday ( Jan. 24) was delivered hours before a court  in Porto Alegre (state of Rio Grande do Sul) is expected to rule on whether it will uphold a corruption conviction on former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. If conviction is overturned, Lula will be a strong candidate in next October presidential election.
