Brazil’s government decided do increase the deployment of troops on its border with Venezuela as well as start relocating around 40,000 Venezuelan refugees who have fled into Brazilian northern states in the Amazon region, Defense Minister Raul Jungmann said on Thursday (Feb.8) during a visit to Boa Vista, the capital of the state of Roraima.
Brazil will not close the border, being its plan to relocate refugees to other cities in Brazil where they can find work and settle down. “We are here to bring federal government help and strengthen the border”, Jungmann told to reporters. “This is a humanitarian drama. The Venezuelan are being expelled from their country by hunger and the lack of jobs and medicine,” he added.
