Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) authorized Electric Energy National Agency to promote the auction Y-6 (Year less six), for the purchase of electric power from new generation ventures, in the second quarter of 2018 (from May to August) . The determination consists of an ordinance published in the Wednesday edition Feb.14th on the Official Journal of the Union (DOU).
The distributors must submit the declarations of need to purchase electric power for the auction until Feb. 26th. The statements must consider the attention to the entire market, with the beginning of the supply of electric power as of Jan. 1fr, 2024.
The definition of the sources to be hired, terms, products and other conditions will be made later, according to the MME, with the publication of complementary guidelines.
The hiring of renewable sources in the auction “Y-6” will be in the modality by quantity of electrical energy, in which the risks of production (delivery point and hydrological risk) are assumed by the generators. In this way, there is a “better price comparison of the different sources that the country has,” says the MME.
At least two new energy auctions in 2018
The auction Y-6 will be the second event planned by the government year (between May and August). The first, the Y-4, with delivery from Jan. 1fr, 2022, is scheduled for Apr. 4th.
The full auction schedule for 2018 (new energy and existing energy re-hiring) will be published by the Ministry of Mines and Energy until Mar. 30th.
