Manchester United are known to be long time admirers of Gremio starlet Arthur, reports in England claim.
The Catalan giants have been in talks with Gremio for several months, while the 21-year-old was actually pictured wearing a Barca shirt after holding secret talks with the La Liga leaders in December.
Chelsea had followed Arthur but it was Manchester United who showed the greater interest of the two.
According to Brazilian newspaper Lance, Barcelona technical director Roberto Fernandez is now in Brazil to secure a definitive agreement.
The report claims that Barcelona will pay €30m up front, plus another €10m in add-ons related to appearances and his first contract renewal.
And Sport now adds that on Monday night Fernandez and Barcelona representative in Brazil Andre Cury took a decisive step to completing the signing after striking an agreement in principle with Gremio officials.
The deal looked in jeopardy when the Brazilian club reported Barca to Federation Internationale de Football Association for tapping up after he was pictured in a club shirt.
Barcelona are reportedly ready to invest € 30 million to sign the player on a permanent deal.
Gremio had been angered by the way Barcelona pursued their player past year and had asked intermediaries to see if Premier League sides wanted to make a counter offer. “But there are negotiations and there are advances in some parts of the negotiation”, Bolzan said as quoted by Globo Esporte.
Gremio’s Arthur has been in good form this season. I will leave [this] as press speculation, not a business situation.
