Copersucar, Brazil’s largest global sugar trader, expects lower sugar production in the south-central part of the country in the current season due to sugar cane aging and dry weather and sees a positive outlook for sugar prices, more sweet in the future.

Copersucar’s chief executive, Paulo Roberto de Souza, told reporters that the company expects total production in the center-south in 2018/19 of 28 million tonnes, compared to 36 million tonnes in the previous harvest.

Total cane milling is estimated by the company at 555 million tons, compared to 596 million tons the previous season.
