US Assistant Secretary of the Treasury of the United States Marshall Billingslea said, on Tuesday (30), that Venezuela “is a clear threat to regional stability and security.” He said that the regime of Nicolas Maduro may hurt “key allies” of the United States, such as Brazil, Argentina and Colombia.

Billingsea is assistant secretary for terrorism financing at the US Treasury Department, which coordinates actions against the US financial system that fuel terrorism and other crimes.

The statement comes a day after the US president, Donald Trump, has declared that it will work “in trade and military” with the president-elect of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro.
