Brazil’s Agriculture Minister Tereza Cristina said Wednesday that reducing bureaucracy in the sector will be one of the priorities of the cabinet under President Jair Bolsonaro and that the Secretariat of Land Affairs will ensure legal certainty.
The statements were given at his inauguration ceremony, held in the building of the ministry in Brasilia. She takes the folder instead of Blairo Maggi.
According to Tereza, Brazil has extremely advanced environmental legislation. In addition, she argued that credit for agricultural production and rural insurance need to be available in a timely and efficient manner.
The new minister did not immediately comment on the transfer of matters related to indigenous lands and former slaves’ lands (quilombolas) to the Ministry of Agriculture.
