Surveys of the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) show that Brazilian chicken exports (considering all products, including fresh and processed) reached 340,500 tons in March, volume 9.5% lower than the 376,200 tonnes exported in the same period last year.

In revenue, the monthly shipment reached US$ 564.8 million, balance 4.1% lower than sales in March 2018, when they were obtained US$ 589.1 million.

In the year, the accumulated balance is 939,300 tons, number 7.6% lower than the volume exported in the first quarter of last year, to 1.016 million tons. Already the result in revenues reached US$ 1.543 billion, 3.8% lower performance than that obtained in 2018, with US$ 1.604 billion.

“Although lower than the same period last year, the volume of exports in March is higher than the balance of February this year and shows the pace of export growth month by month. In this context, the overall average price for March was 5.5% higher than the same period last year, driven especially by sales of the Middle East and Asia, “says Francisco Turra, president of ABPA.

The UAE stood out in the month, with imports of 36,300 tons, 23% more compared to March 2018. Qatar also increased their purchases, with a monthly total of 7400 tons (+ 40%).

Sales to the European Union also grew last month, reaching 20.3 thousand tons (+ 5%).

The leader among poultry importers from Brazil, China also increased its purchases in the month, reaching 41.7 thousand tons (+ 2%).

“In addition to the consolidation of China as the main destination of Brazilian chicken meat, the strong rise in sales to the United Arab Emirates indicate the support of halal products flows in the Middle East,” says Ricardo Santin, executive director of ABPA.
