President Jair Bolsonaro said Tuesday in a speech to a mayors’ forum across the country that approving the pension reform is a crossroads that needs to be crossed, and called for support to get approval in the Congress.
“We would not have to do Social Security reform, but we are obligated,” Bolsonaro said in a speech.
The president also announced that the government will support the increase of the Municipal Participation Fund (FPM) through a constitutional amendment. According to him, the matter has already been discussed with Economy Minister Paulo Guedes.
Bolsonaro also confirmed that he will announce on Wednesday the payment of 13º salary for beneficiaries of the Bolsa Família program, but defended that only with technology and knowledge will the country cease to be dependent on exports of commodities.
Bolsonaro said he will travel in the coming months to China, the Arab community and return to the United States, and reiterated his support for the rational exploration of the Amazon without giving more details of what it would be like.
