Onyx Lorenzoni, the Minister of the Civil House, coordinates a meeting on Monday to discuss the fuel prices policy and the freight tariff for truck drivers. The meeting is scheduled for 14:30.
Ministers of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, are expected in the Planalto Palace; of the Infrastructure, Tarcísio Freitas; of Economics, Paulo Guedes; the Secretary of Government, Alberto Santos Cruz, and the General Secretariat, Floriano Peixoto. The presidents of BNDES, Joaquim Levy, and Petrobras, Roberto Castello, are also expected to attend the meeting.
Last week, Petrobras had announced a readjustment of 5.7% of the price of diesel oil at the refineries, but the measure was suspended at the request of President Jair Bolsonaro.
Bolsonaro wants to understand the technical aspects of Petrobras’ decision and denied that there is government interference in the state’s pricing policy.
The president said that there is concern about the readjustment of fuels by the impact on the cargo transportation sector, directly affecting the truck drivers. In May have last year, the rise in the price of fuel led to the stoppage of the category, which affected the distribution of food and other inputs, causing damage to several productive sectors.
After the decision to suspend the diesel readjustment on Friday (12), there was a drop in the stock market and a devaluation of 8.54% of Petrobras shares. While denying that it is intervening in prices, the market tends to react badly when the government interferes directly with a state-owned company such as Petrobras.
On Tuesday (16), another meeting is scheduled to address the issue, with the presence of President Jair Bolsonaro.
